The Details:
A right-hand drive 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Targa presenting in largely original condition and desirable manual configuration.
Introduced in 1984, Porsche’s Carrera 3.2 is highly regarded as the most well developed and usable version of the classic air cooled 911. While the cars looked quite similar to the previous SC, they saw some big changes under the boot lid. Most significantly - a new 3.2-litre horizontally opposed flat-six, which was paired with a new inlet manifold and exhaust, front oil cooler, L-Jetronic fuel injection system with Bosch Motornics 2 DME, and larger disc brakes.
This car’s engine was rebuilt in 2003 by Portiacraft in England, including new valve guides, piston rings, timing chains and all ancillary gaskets.
The cars saw little development through their five year run, except for one pivotal change in 1987 in the form of a new five-speed Getrag G50 manual gearbox with hydraulic clutch actuation. This was both stronger than the previous 915 transmission, which had been around since 1972, and had a smoother more confident shift, giving these later cars a reputation as the ultimate classic 911.
Finished in classic white over black, this 3.2 Carrera is neatly presented in Targa trim with the odometer reading 255,500 km. It rides 16-inch Fuchs alloy wheels and features a bluetooth sound system.
It is reported to be mechanically original and will be sold with service history and original books. It was first registered in Australia in May, 2004.
This 3.2 Carrera was serviced in preparation for sale by Sports Leisure Vehicles in March 2026, requiring just a routine oil and filter change.
A used, enjoyed and unpretentious classic 911, this 1987 Porsche 3.2 Carrera Targa represents a wonderful opportunity to experience the most well developed variant of Porsche’s classic 911.
