Ever since its starring role in the 2008 film Iron Man, the first-generation Audi R8 earned many fans, and this 2011 model is a truly fine example of the iconic supercar with the rare Carbon Edition package.

Created to emulate the looks of the hardcore R8 GT, the Carbon Edition package would’ve cost $38,100 to specify each item individually from the regular options list. This included extensive use of high-gloss carbon fibre weave for the R8’s iconic ‘side blade’ air intakes, wing mirrors, front lip spoiler, rear diffuser, and illuminated sill plates.

However, Audi Australia offered 10 lucky customers the chance to get all that value for just a $10,900 premium, with it made available on all R8 variants, although with only four subtle colour options available.

The original buyer of this car specified it as a Phantom Black coupe powered by the brand’s well-regarded 4.2-litre V8 engine which produces 309kW and 430Nm, good for the 0-100km/h sprint in 4.6 seconds.

This car was also specified with the six-speed ‘R-Tronic’ automated manual gearbox with paddle shifters, which channels the power to all four wheels through the brand’s patented ‘quattro’ all-wheel drive system.

Currently located in Adelaide, this car presents in excellent condition inside and out with only 57,889km currently indicated, all books, and a recent service conducted two months ago.

To extend the carbon fibre theme and fill out its looks, it has been fitted with a matching fixed rear wing that looks like it always should’ve been there. It has also been treated to an exhaust to enhance its V8 soundtrack. However, the seller notes that all original parts are included with the sale should the buyer wish to return it to factory form.

With a rare options package, proven engine, and looks that still turn plenty of heads two decades after this model’s mid-2006 debut, this is a prime opportunity to secure an excellent example of what remains a dream car in the eyes of many – and a chance to picture yourself in Tony Stark’s iron shoes while you’re at it.
