Rare to find in Australia, this 2002 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is a neatly presented example of the late model performance-oriented Z06, benefitting from an ‘absolute mirror’ right-hand drive conversion completed by Jeff Sutherland of Torque Chevy.

Originally delivered into the US out of the Bowling Green, Kentucky assembly plant, this car was purchased in 2010 with 42,00 km on the odometer during a visit to the SEMA show from a dealer in Las Vegas. Following its purchase, it was featured at several automotive trade shows in both Sydney and Melbourne.

In 2012 it was placed into dry storage in preparation for a full right-hand drive conversion. The conversion was overseen by Jeff Sutherland of Torque Chevy in Windsor, a highly regarded specialist in Corvette conversions. 

The project spanned several years, with the work completed in 2017, and is significant in that it was the final vehicle Jeff completed before retiring. In recognition of this milestone, the interior was outfitted with a custom leather-wrapped dashboard and door trims to elevate the driving experience and serve as a testament to Jeff’s expertise.

The ‘C5’ Corvette was the first to feature General Motor’s third generation small block LS engine, which was tuned for the Z06 and designated the LS6. In 2002, the intake, camshaft and valves were upgraded and the airflow improved, giving the 5.7-litre LS6 V8 a power bump to 405 hp and making this model the one to look for. 

All Z06 were equipped from the factory with a Borg Warner/Tremec T-56 six-speed manual transmission with computer-aided gear shifting, and this car has been upgraded with a short throw shift kit.

The Z06 was a harder-edged performance car, all configured as fixed roof coupés clad in a lightweight body and equipped with a titanium exhaust system, less sound proofing and thinner glass to keep the weight down. The cars also received upgraded and more firmly tuned ‘FE4’ suspension, revised braking calibration, enhanced active handling system, larger and lighter wheels and brake cooling ducts.

This car is finished in Torch Red with black leather trim and shows 70,027 km. The seller notes a small paint blemish on the front nearside guard. It will be accompanied by original handbooks and Corvette Z06 binder.
