The Details:

This 1973 Ford XA Falcon 500 hardtop ‘Superbird’ is an stunning example of the vanishingly rare Australian muscle car, restored in 2013 to award winning condition.

The Superbird was a limited-run special based on the XA Falcon 500 hardtop, pairing a 302 Cleveland V8 with distinctive finish combinations like this car’s Polar White with Cosmic Blue, rear window louvre, sports suspension, styled steel wheels and a GT-style instrument cluster. A mere 750 examples are believed to have been built.

This vehicle is reported to be a one owner car, remaining in the care of its original owner for more than five decades until their passing. It’s finished in Polar White with Cosmic Blue accents, matching its factory specification, and is equipped with a 302ci Cleveland V8 paired with a three-speed T-bar automatic transmission. 

It is understood to have been rear ended in 1989 and written off due to lack of availability of appropriate spare parts at the time. Thankfully, it was retained and restored nearly a quarter century later by Mace Custom Cars, going on to win several awards around the country.

The original repair manual and partially completed service book will be included in the sale, and the original registration sticker remains on the vehicle. The Superbird’s original plates were handed back to the Department of Motor Vehicles in 1989 - registration number GIA089. Receipts supporting the restoration work completed will also accompany the car.
