The Details:
This 1962 Chevrolet Biscayne is a stunning, highly developed example of the marque’s 1960s sleeper, offered in restored condition from the care of a 20-year ownership.
Introduced as Chevrolet’s simplest entry level model, below the Bel Air and Impala, the Biscayne would become a favourite of tuners, who took to building them up as high performance sleepers, particularly with the marque’s landmark 409 engine.
Coming out of Los Angeles in 1962, this car was imported by the seller into Australia in 2002, described as a rust-free desert car. Following a full body-off bare metal restoration, it was first registered in NSW in 2007.
The highlight of the build is the 409 cubic-inch, 6.7-litre Chevrolet V8 resting in an immaculate engine bay. This rare engine has been further developed and is now paired with dual 500cfm Edelbrock carburettors, high performance intake, Offenhauser valve covers, Aussie Desert Cooler radiator and MSD ignition. Shifting is via a four-speed floor-shift manual transmission.
Other upgrades include VT front disc brakes with power booster and a Ford 9-inch disc brake differential.
The Biscayne’s aesthetics have not been neglected, and the vehicle benefits from both paintwork and interior restoration. It now rides American Racing wheels and features an arresting and immaculately presented red interior, with some lovely contrasting patina on original pieces of trim.
The seller describes the repainted black finish as in good condition, noting just some blemishes on the bonnet, marks under the fuel filler and crazing on the rear guard.
Balancing well developed performance credentials with a beautiful retro presentation and neatly finished interior, this 1962 Chevrolet Biscayne would make a magic weekend cruiser, or an uncommon addition to a collection of serious muscle.
