1983 Porsche 924 Turbo - Australian Delivered
Fast Facts:
An Australian-delivered ‘Series 2’ example of Porsche’s water-cooled transaxle pioneer, equipped with the more powerful late generation turbocharged 2.0-litre inline four and five-speed manual transmission
The Details:
This 1983 Porsche 924 Turbo is a well loved and honestly presented example of Porsche’s supremely balanced and successful 2+2 coupé, reported as being largely mechanically original.
Despite being introduced as an entry point to the marque’s range, the 924 delivered impeccable handling and impressive performance in Turbo trim, and quickly garnered a strong reputation amongst critics and enthusiasts.
Its engine was a significantly reworked version of the naturally aspirated unit found in the base 924, most notably equipped with a KK&K K-26 turbocharger. This received a slight power boost in 1981, with later cars, like this one, running 130 kW thanks to an updated turbocharger and improved fuel injection system with Digital Ignition Timing Control.
The Turbos also received re-tuned spring rates and anti-roll bars, NACA duct and front intake, duck tail rear spoiler, 15-inch five-stud alloy wheels, discs on each corner and a five-speed dogleg transmission.
Built in November 1981, this Australian-delivered vehicle is finished in Alpine White over a black interior. Factory options noted in the build sheet include activated charcoal canister, increased side-impact strength, electric passenger-side mirror, cassette/coin box, rear wiper, clear windscreen, H4 headlights for left-hand traffic, no rear fog lamp, sunroof, and power windows.
An aftermarket Alpine head unit has been installed, and the seller reports owner-completed servicing of the vehicle.
Today, this 1983 Porsche 924 Turbo presents as an honest and usable example of the transaxle-era model that helped redefine Porsche’s entry-level sports car in the early 1980s, and a terrific entry point to the Porsche driving experience.
