This 1979 Porsche 928 is an early example of the marque’s lauded 2+2 coupé grand tourer, finished in silver over a black cabin and fitted with the less common three-speed automatic transmission option.

Porsche developed the 928 with the intent of replacing the rear-engined 911 as their flagship model, balancing sports car performance and handling with the ride and comfort of a luxury car. It met immediate acclaim, and was awarded the 1978 European Car of the Year award.

This 928 is equipped with the marque’s first production V8 engine - a 4.5-litre all-alloy 16-valve ‘M28’. These water cooled units feature Bosch K-Jetronic fuel infection and a single overhead camshaft. This is mounted at the front and water-cooled, a rear transaxle providing supremely balanced 50/50 weight distribution. 

The transmission is the aforementioned Mercedes-Benz-derived automatic and the car features a Weissach Axle, giving it passive rear-wheel steering.

This 928 wears the front and back rear spoilers found on a later 928 S, and also features 928 S badging. It rides Porsche ‘phone dial’ alloy wheels.
