Presents excellently and in otherwise unmodified condition, complete with recently refreshed brakes and suspension.
The Details:
This 1973 Dodge Challenger represents one of the most interesting eras in American automotive history, as it was one of the last ‘proper’ muscle cars on sale before the notorious malaise era kicked in.
As emissions regulations started creeping in and rising insurance costs for performance cars forced American manufacturers to start pivoting away from big V8s, the Challenger managed to hold out for just long enough in this facelifted form.
While not as raw as an earlier 1970 or ’71 model, that’s no bad thing because this later model is more civilised, still packs a big V8 that makes all the right noises, and of course looks the part with its unmissable looks.
Finished in a shade of red that really pops in the sunlight, this example started out in life as a 318-powered car. However, during its previous life back in the States, it was upgraded to the larger 360 V8 fitted to ’74 models, good for around 245hp.
The smooth three-speed automatic transmission fitted to this example suits this later Challenger’s character. Positioned at the more premium end of the ‘pony car’ segment, it features a black vinyl interior and wood-grain trim which still holds up in good condition after around 62,800 miles.
Recent work done to this car includes a refreshed braking system with new discs and lines, along with a new set of suspension bushes all around. As a result, this example drives beautifully with the smooth but grunty feel you’d want in a car from this era.
The seller also notes that the car will also be supplied with a brand-new 1970-style bumper without the later-model rubber bumper points should the buyer wish for a cleaner look.
As a comfortable weekend cruiser, it would be hard to go wrong with this excellent later example of the iconic Challenger.
