The Details:

Hand built in Rimini by Italian custom motorcycle manufacturer Bimota, the YB6 was an extremely expensive and exclusive production motorcycle in its day, designed to be superior to a World Superbike race bike.

Bimota chose a Yamaha FZR1000 engine for the endeavour, using fuel injection rather than carburetors on the Tuatara, and fitting a less restrictive lightweight stainless steel exhaust. With their tuning, the motor peaks at 152 hp at 9,500 rpm.

The transmission is a five-speed manual paired with chain final drive, a rear monoshock and Brembo braking system with twin front discs rounding out the spec list.

The Bimota chassis is a piece of lightweight engineering magnificence, built around a twin-spar aluminium frame fitted with inverted Marzocchi forks and paired with carbon fibre and fibreglass bodywork and magnesium alloy wheels. The retro futuristic instrument cluster was chosen to save weight by employing a slim electronic digital panel, and was one of the first of its kind on a production bike.

In testing, factory test rider Giancarlo Falappa is said to have clocked 300 kilometres an hour to make it the fastest production road bike in the world.

This example is reported to have been serviced in 2025 at 8,000 km, and will be accompanied by a partial service history and an invoice from the dealer. The seller notes a small chip on the left side of the bike, below the seat and towards the rear.

Presenting in largely original condition, this 1989 Bimota YB6 Tuatara is a lovely example of one of the most striking and technically ambitious Italian superbikes of its era.
