1975 Porsche 911S Targa 2.7

Fast Facts:

  • A handsome US-delivered 1975 Porsche 911S Targa, finished in Tonbac Metallic over a tan leather interior

  • Reportedly restored aesthetically and mechanically during its time in New Zealand, before importation to Australia in 2019

The Details:

This 1975 Porsche 911S Targa is a neatly presented early impact bumper car, finished in Tonbac Metallic copper paintwork over a tan cabin and showing 95,450 miles.

The car was originally delivered in the US through John Riddick Motors of Columbia, Missouri, on 26 January 1976. Well specified from the factory, it was delivered with metallic paint, air conditioning, Fuchs alloy wheels, the folding Targa top and rear cover, and five-speed manual transmission.

After spending some time in the States, it made its way to New Zealand in 1995, where it is understood to have been aesthetically and mechanically restored, with the air-conditioning system previously reinstalled to factory-style specification. In 2019 it would cross the Tasman, entering the care of the seller, where it has stayed for the past seven years.

Power comes from Porsche’s 2.7-litre air-cooled flat-six with Bosch CIS fuel injection, producing around 175 horsepower. This is coupled to a five-speed manual transmission.

The fetching copper finish is understood to be the original factory colour, and benefits from prior respraying. A small rust repair has been completed, and some stone chips are noted on the front bonnet, along with a minor scratch on the front bumper

Inside, the tan cabin is reported to be largely original and thus carries the expected patina from age and enjoyment. The seller notes faded carpet and leather and a slight sag in the headlining, with no major rips or tears. There is a small worn patch to the transmission tunnel carpet where the driver’s right foot rests.

The 911S is offered with original dealer and factory handbooks, tool satchel, extensive receipts, and partial service history including detailed New Zealand registration and service records from 1995 to 2019. A collection of parts will also accompany the vehicle. Servicing has been completed by its sole Australian owner since importation in June 2019.

Benefitting from some sympathetic aesthetic and mechanical refreshment, this 1975 Porsche 911S Targa is a lovely example of the iconic impact bumper car and represents an engaging route into classic air-cooled Porsche ownership.
