The Details:

This tidy 1973 Toyota Celica 1600 GT is a nicely modified example of the classic Japanese sports coupe that will be well suited either to someone looking for a fun weekend cruiser or something to modify more extensively.

Launched in late 1970, the Celica was aimed at the North American market and created in response to the successful 1964 Ford Mustang that pioneered the ‘pony car’ class, taking a standard sedan platform and transforming it into a 2+2 coupe.

It wasn’t until 1973 that the Celica actually launched in its home market of Japan, with this 1600 GT variant positioned in the middle of the range, blending sportier styling with a 1.6-litre twin-cam engine.

This example has been modified while still respecting the car’s origins, with the hue of its metallic blue paint working well on this ’70s styling, while the interior has been retrimmed in a mix of white and black leather.

Other upgrades include custom lights, carbon fibre side mirrors, rear ducktail spoiler, aftermarket wheels, and a custom audio system complete with a subwoofer.

Under the bonnet, the original 1.6-litre engine has been replaced with an engine of identical specification, although upgraded with twin SU carburettors and an exhaust.

This car also comes provided with a full widebody kit that isn’t currently installed, including a fender kit and front spoiler.

The vehicle is currently on NSW historic registration with a logbook, with it only driven on weekends by the seller.

With potential for further modification or the ability to simply be driven and enjoyed in its current state, this Celica will no doubt appeal to classic Japanese car enthusiasts.
