The Details:

A heavily modified, slightly mad 2001 HSV VX Clubsport R8, finished in Redhot/Sting Red paintwork over an HSV premium cloth upholstered cabin with a 6.2-litre supercharged LSA crate engine under the hood.

In factory form, the VX Clubsport R8 offered 255 kW from a 5.7-litre LS1 Chevrolet Heritage V8, along with upgraded HSV Sports brake package (with police specification pads), suspension, trim and bodywork.

Previously owned and given away by YouTuber Spanian, this example takes that formula, and runs off into the sunset with it. The seller reports that it has been fitted with a new HSV VF GTS 6.2-litre supercharged LSA crate engine, supported by all-new wiring and more than $40,000 in engine work with invoices. The engine bay also carries a plaque noting that it was handbuilt by Scott Condous. 

Further work is understood to include a custom one-off metal bubble bonnet by Pro Worx Performance, a differential build by Diff Technics, a shortened IRS kit by Showtime Customs and Fabrication, and a Boss rear air suspension kit. It rides on a custom Billet Racing wheel package, with 17 x 9.5-inch rear wheels and 20 x 8-inch fronts.

Inside, the car retains its HSV patterned cloth trim, HSV cluster and climate control, now joined by additional boost and air/fuel gauges. The odometer shows 200,748 km, although the new engine is believed to only have a few thousand kilometres on it. The dashboard carries signatures represented by the seller as Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup.

Accompanying material is said to include the HSV Certificate of Ownership for build number 764 and the original HSV congratulations letter from Mark Behr, HSV National Sales and Marketing Manager.

This is a heavily modified HSV and is offered as such. The seller notes that the car is not engineered and is being sold as is. 

The VX Clubsport R8 was one of the defining HSV sedans of its era, from a time when mad V8-powered Aussie muscle allowed our unique motoring culture to shine on the world stage. This example presents as a dramatic, characterful and properly outrageous take on the much-loved early-2000s sedan, and one sure to give the right buyer many enjoyable miles.
