The Details:

Introduced in 2011 to some scepticism around the marque’s employment of their ubiquitous ‘N54’ turbocharged inline six-cylinder, the 1M, as it’s colloquially become known, met immediate praise and became a quick cult classic. This 2012 example, finished in Alpine White III and presented in largely original, low mileage order, represents a prime opportunity to understand why.

Developed for a short production run understood to be a little over 6,000 cars, the 1M combined the compact proportions of the E82 1 Series Coupe with widened bodywork, M chassis hardware and a manual-only drivetrain. The result was a small, muscular and focused performance coupe, and one that has only grown in reputation since new.

This 2012 example is finished in Alpine White III over a well presented black leather and Alcantara-trimmed interior with orange contrast stitching. It rides 19-inch Style 359M alloy wheels, fitted with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres.

Power comes from BMW’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six, factory rated at 250 kW and 450 Nm, with an overboost function that increases torque by about 50 Nm when you stomp on the loud pedal. Drive is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.

Equipment includes BMW Professional infotainment with satellite navigation, Harman/Kardon audio, cruise control, rear parking sensors, electrically adjustable front sports seats with driver memory, dual-zone automatic climate control and xenon headlights with washers.

This example is also noted as having desirable BMW Motorsport additions, including the rear spoiler and door mirror covers, along with an M Sport steering wheel with LED shift lights. 

The car is accompanied by owners manuals, two keys and a stamped service booklet. It is reported to have benefitted from consistent servicing throughout its life, most recently at 27,750 kilometres by Canterbury BMW in February 2023.

A lovely low mileage example of an already hard-to-find car, this 2012 BMW 1M coupe represents an appealing example of one of BMW M’s most collectible modern performance cars.
