The Details:
Introduced for 1967, the Pontiac Firebird was General Motors’ more upscale and performance-focused sibling to the Camaro, sharing the same F-body platform but carrying its own styling, trim and engine identity. The 1968 model year brought minor visual refinements and continued the Firebird’s broad range of six-cylinder and V8 variants, from the base models through to the 350, 400 and Ram Air cars.
This 1968 car is understood to have come out of the marque’s Lordstown, Ohio plant as a two-door hardtop in 1968. It’s accompanied by a copy of the import approval stamped September 2001, and made its way into the seller’s care in 2002.
The seller treated it to a full ‘everything off’ restoration and comprehensively developed the Firebird into the magnificent street machine you see before you. This restoration and development work was completed in 2009, and the seller reports an exceedingly modest 2,000 km travelled since then.
Work began with repainting the Firebird inside, out and under, and the car now presents beautifully, finished in a custom two-tone purple and silver paintwork, with a vented cowl-style bonnet, deleted and filled marker/nameplate detailing, Billet specialty wheels 18-inch front 20-inch rear, new H4 headlights, new rubber seals and most of the chrome moulds understood to be new.
Under the bonnet is a Chevrolet 383 ci stroker V8 in place of the original Pontiac 350. The build is understood to include alloy heads, an Edelbrock Victor Jr intake, Edelbrock carburettor, extractors and upgraded cooling and exhaust. A 2008 Hercules Competition Engines dyno sheet accompanies the car and shows a peak figure of 481.3hp, with the seller reporting 460 lb-ft of torque.
Power is sent through a Turbo 700 automatic transmission with a B & M shifter, to a Ford 9-inch rear end and one-piece tailshaft. The seller also reports upgraded suspension, new steering box and power steering, four-wheel GM disc brakes with twin calipers up front, stainless steel fuel and brake lines, stainless fuel tank, new radiator and fans, new wiring, Billet hood hinges and a powder coated subframe.
The interior was retrimmed in pearl parchment and features front bucket seats, a rear bench, black carpets and a black dash. Modern AutoMeter Phantom instrumentation has been fitted, including MPH speedometer, tachometer, oil pressure, water temperature, voltage and fuel gauges.
The car is offered without handbooks. The most recent service is reported to have been carried out by the owner in July 2025. The seller notes that the speedometer cable and heater controls are not currently connected.
Offered from a near quarter century of enthusiast ownership, benefitting from extensive restoration and development work and reported to have travelled a mere 2,000 km since its completion, this 1968 Pontiac Firebird represents a rare opportunity to acquire a well sorted example of the American icon.
