The Details:
This Jaguar XKR Convertible is a handsome example of the sporty grand tourer, finished in Platinum Metallic over a taupe and antelope leather cabin with burr walnut veneer. Well preserved, comprehensively documented, and showing a modest 88,300 km, examples like this are becoming increasingly rare to find.
Launched in the late 1990s as the performance flagship of Jaguar’s new XK range, the XKR built upon the XK8 with a supercharged version of the marque’s AJ-V8 engine. The new engine was well received, responsive and torquey, and played a big role in the model’s much more sporty drive, the cars also featuring double wishbone suspension with computer controlled Bilstien shocks, ventilated disc brakes and a sharper chassis.
That more muscular performance was highlighted in Keith Helfet and Fergus Pollock’s design as well, featuring bonnet vents, a rear spoiler and honeycomb grille, but they didn’t stray into more lurid supercar territory, instead penning refined lines that reference the iconic E-Type for what’s become an enduring classic silhouette. Combined with Jaguar’s usual high standard of finishing and some modern conveniences, it made for one of the great grand tourers of its period.
Jaguar’s 4.0-litre supercharged AJ-V8 is at the heart of this car, assisted by an Eaton M112 supercharger with power sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission. The engine was factory rated at around 370 hp and 387 lb-ft of torque, delivering it from a gentle 3,600 rpm and pushing the car to 100 in just under five and a half seconds.
Factory XKR details include the mesh front grille, bonnet louvres, rear spoiler, XKR sill plates and 18-inch alloy wheels.
This car’s original coachwork and paintwork are reported to present very well, including the convertible roof which is understood to be operating without issue. The CAA Tokyo auction record grades it at 4.5, with B/C exterior/interior grading and notes of minor marks and interior wear consistent with age and use. The car retains its period audio system and CD stacker.
First registered in May of 2000, this XKR is reported to have been sourced from Japan and recently imported to Australia having been meticulously maintained and garaged throughout its life. Comprehensive service records are understood to accompany it, as well as a CarVX history report, JEVIC certificate, Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, two keys, two ignition-remote keys and owner documentation.
The seller reports more than $5,000 spent on servicing and preparing the car in the past year, with the most recent service work completed at listing mileage of 88,300 km in May 2026. Prior to that, in March 2025, the XKR was serviced at 87,657 km reportedly including brake fluid, transmission fluid, air filters, spark plugs, catalytic converter, differential oil and other items.
Offering a compelling blend of elegance, touring comfort and performance in an enticing convertible layout, this 2000 Jaguar XKR is a well presented and documented example of the marque’s increasingly appreciated grand tourer.
