Fast Facts:

  • Seller reports accompanying service history and long-term enthusiast ownership

The Details:

This 1985 BMW M635 CSi, known as the M6 in the US and Japan, is a rare factory right-hand drive example of BMW Motorsport’s iconic driver’s car, finished in repainted Alpine White over blue leather and indicating 134,231 miles.

Introduced in 1984, the M635 CSi was the result of the marque handing the standard 635 CSi over to their Motorsport department with the instruction to make a hot driver’s car, resulting in what they call their first M luxury sports car. BMW states that 5,855 were built, with some sources saying a little over 500 rolled out of the factory in right-hand drive.

The M635 CSi combined Paul Bracq’s iconic four seat coupe design with BMW Motorsport’s 3.5-litre M88/3, which itself was developed from the engine used in the legendary BMW M1. Factory output was quoted at 286 hp, with BMW listing a top speed of 255 km/h.

That hot engine was paired with a reinforced close-ratio five-speed manual and limited-slip differential, revised chassis and suspension, a relocated battery to improve weight distribution and a more powerful braking system.

Originally a UK market car, this example is understood to have previously been owned for around 20 years by the same BMW enthusiast, with the current owner having acquired it approximately one year ago.

The seller reports it to have received full a nut and bolt restoration over a period of 12 - 24 months around 2011. This included a full rebuild of the motor, which is reported to have travelled approximately 10,000 miles since. The work is supported by a collection of 770 photos documenting the restoration work and timeline.

The M635 CSI has been refinished in Alpine White, matching its original colour, with the blue leather interior understood to have been preserved in its original condition. It rides genuine BBS wheels.

This BMW is reported to have been maintained by the same BMW specialist for its two decades with the previous owner, and been preserved in excellent condition.

Boasting a neat restored presentation and benefitting from a rebuilt 3.5-litre 24-valve inline-six, this 1985 M635 CSi is a compelling example of one of BMW’s defining M cars, in rare factory right-hand drive layout.
