1968 Ford XT Fairmont

Fast Facts:

Powered by a 408 ci Windsor stroker equipped with Holley Terminator X electronic management and MSD ignition

Benefits from a retrimmed interior with GT dash, Dynamat sound deadening, new vinyl parcel shelf and one-piece carpet

The Details:

This 1968 Ford XT Fairmont is an honestly presented example of Ford’s top of the line luxury Falcon, benefitting from some considered mechanical upgrades including a 408 ci Windsor V8 and upgraded driveline, and a retrimmed cabin.

Built May 1968 in Ford’s Broadmeadows plant, this XT Fairmont is understood to have been originally finished in Polar White and equipped with the optional 302 ci two-barrel Windsor V8 paired with a three-speed column-shift Cruise-O-Matic transmission.

Power is now courtesy of a 408 ci Windsor stroker understood to be using the same registered block and equipped with Holley Terminator X electronic management and MSD ignition. During the rebuild wiring work was redone and the engine bay tidied up, and it presents brilliantly today.

That power is delivered through an upgraded C4 automatic transmission with a stage two shift to a nine-inch differential with 31-spline axles and 3.55:1 gearing. A Final Drive Engineering upgraded driveline and Wilwood 320 mm disc brakes with a dual remote brake booster also feature.

The Fairmont is finished in an older Zircon Green repaint from a previous ownership, with gold striping, GT badging, Grille-mounted driving lamps and alloy wheels. It presents attractively, although stone chips, a front fender scratch from the bonnet hinge failing on the highway, and some older body work on the lower front and rear fenders are noted by the seller.

The cabin has been retrimmed, including a GT dash, Dynamat sound deadening, a new vinyl parcel shelf and one-piece carpet. A RetroSound head unit and Kicker speakers provide a more modern entertainment system while blending seamlessly with the classic presentation.

The speedometer indicates 13,606 miles, understood to reflect use since the cluster replacement. The previous Fairmont dash is reported to have shown 70,000 miles and photos of the car before and after will accompany the sale.

The Fairmont has been in the care of the seller for the past nine years and will be accompanied by receipts documenting the mechanical upgrades completed in that time. Major service work was performed by workshops, with receipts likewise retained. Routine oil and filter changes have been performed by the seller, including most recently at 12,500 miles.

The seller reports that the fuel gauge and tacho are not currently reading, but there is a digital readout on the Terminator X screen.
