The Details:

Introduced for the 2001 model year, the C5 generation Corvette Z06 borrowed its name from a vanishingly rare option package for the early 1963 split window coupe, which tuned the classic by upgrading handling and brakes and fitting a big 36.5 gallon tank. And it lived up to that performance pedigree, arriving as the highest performance production Corvette of the era.

At its heart was the 5.7-litre naturally aspirated LS6 V8, a hot version of the LS1 V8 found in the standard C5, comprehensively developed and capable of an increased 385 horsepower. This was sent to the rear wheels via a close-ratio six-speed manual with shorter gearing, stronger clutch and larger diameter driveshaft. 

The additional power, and ability to deliver it, required consideration in the chassis as well. So, the cars received new ‘FE4’ suspension and tuning, with stiffer anti-roll bars and larger (and significantly lighter) tyres and wheels. To complete the package, the cars were put through a weight loss programme that included reduced sound insulation, thinner glass and titanium mufflers.

The result was one of the most capable American performance cars of its period, running a quarter mile in 12.7 seconds and sprinting to 100 km/hr in 4.3. Bucking the American stereotype, it wasn’t all power, either, boasting balanced handling and mighty stopping power.

Originating in the US, this example was manufactured in September 2000 and carries VIN 1G1YY12SX15106369, identifying it as a 2001 model year car. It’s finished in red over a black cabin and currently rides aftermarket black C7 Corvette alloy wheels.

Its red finish is reported to be in good condition and has been partially PPF wrapped. Some lifting or peeling of the PPF wrap is reported. Likewise, the cabin is understood to be well presented, with Z06 embroidered leather sports seats and an updated MGW short-throw shifter. 

The odometer displays 68,337 km and the seller is not aware of the Z06 having sustained accident damage. It is reported to be accompanied by partial service history and a Carfax report detailing elements of its earlier servicing. 

Its previous owner reportedly retained the car for approximately eight years and serviced it personally, although did not keep records. It is understood to have been serviced by the seller within the past month or 500 km, replacing the engine oil and filter, serpentine belt and battery.

An intermittent fault affecting the indicators, attributed to a known issue with the hazard light switch, has been reported. When the indicators fail to operate, pressing the hazard switch reportedly restores their function. Replacement of the switch is suggested as a permanent repair.

This 2001 Corvette Z06 is an appealing example of Chevrolet's lightweight and engaging LS6 performance flagship, offered from enthusiast ownership with an accompanying Carfax report and some modest aesthetic updates.
