The Details:
This 1965 Ford Mustang presents as a substantially upgraded example of Ford's original pony car, finished in black over a matching black cabin and powered by a replacement 347 ci Windsor ‘Stroker’ V8.
Introduced to the public at the New York World's Fair in April 1964, the Mustang combined a muscular silhouette with an enormous range of drivetrain and equipment choices. More than 418,000 were sold in its first year, establishing a formula that quickly became a defining icon of American car culture.
Records identify this car by VIN 5R07C248007, marking it as a San Jose-built 1965 hardtop originally equipped with Ford's C-code 289 ci two-barrel V8. Power now comes from a replacement 347 ci (5.7-litre) ‘Stroker’ Windsor V8, paired with a three-speed automatic and aftermarket B&M floor shifter.
Supporting modifications are understood to include upgraded suspension, power-assisted front disc brakes, larger rear drums and a later power steering pump, while the engine bay carries Ford Racing rocker covers and aftermarket ignition hardware.
Finished in black, the Mustang rides chrome 15-inch Mags wheels and features discreet 347 badging. A previous 2026 listing records a bare-metal repaint, together with replacement exterior rubbers, windscreen and headlights. Inside, the black-trimmed cabin has reportedly been reupholstered, with renewed carpeting, soundproofing, door trims and parcel shelf, complemented by auxiliary gauges and a Sony stereo.
The odometer indicates 18,565 miles, although this is not warranted. The '4U' plates it wears are not included in the sale.
A general service is understood to have been carried out in December 2025 at 12,673 miles. During a prior owner’s custodianship, services are reported to have been performed every 5,000 km, with oil changes one every 3,000.
The sale will be accompanied by a 1965 Mustang owner's manual and South Australian club-registration logbook, some receipts, the spare wheel and a fire extinguisher.
