The Details:

Finished in a stunning shade of red and benefitting from a complete nut and bolt restoration completed to an exquisite standard, this 1969 Jaguar E-Type Series II Fixed Head Coupe (FHC) is an example sure to appeal to collectors and classic racers alike.

The car spent just two years of its life in the UK, before arriving into Australia. Previously owned long-term by an executive member of the Jaguar car club, who worked in the industry and fastidiously performed all maintenance on the car during their ownership themselves, this E-Type has been well cared for without a life consigned to the back corner of the garage.

Its motorsport competition history sees more than 20 entries listed in its CAMS logbook, detailing many race wins and podium finishes. This track use has informed many of the upgrades this car has been treated to, and while currently presented in street specification can easily be reversed to competition standard.

Although not currently fitted, a CAMS-approved roll cage is included in the sale, with it easily reinstalled by bolting it into cleverly disguised mounting points hidden in the factory trim.

Treated to a complete bare metal restoration 15 years ago, this E-Type presents in show winning condition having won numerous awards for Best in Show since its restoration. Repainted its original red, a recent paint correction and re-fitted PPF on the bonnet ensure it is well protected, with some minor stone chips on the underside of the car the only defect to be seen. The dealer-fitted vinyl sunroof was deleted during restoration, and the car is now back in its original factory non-sunroof specification.

The original, numbers-matching 4.2-litre straight-six engine features under its distinctive long bonnet, with it rebuilt 10 years ago using standard-sized bore liners with upgraded Series III pistons and conrods, along with larger intake valves.

This engine has also benefitted from a costly but important piece of preventative maintenance: machining and inserting head gasket retainers, an essential upgrade for preventing head gasket failure. The seller stresses that the car maintains a normal operating temperature and oil pressure around 60psi, meaning it won’t overheat in traffic or when pushed hard on warmer days.

Backed by a four-speed manual gearbox, noted by the Jaguar specialist who carried out recent service work as one of the finest examples they’ve tested, power is channelled to the rear wheels through a limited slip differential sourced from an XJS.

The suspension was also upgraded with the fitment of adjustable Koni Classic shock absorbers, with it perfectly tweaked for the right ride height and balanced, neutral handling.

It currently rides on original-spec wire wheels shod in Dunlop Sport tyres, which were replaced as part of the restoration process. During its racing days, it rode on Series III five-stud hubs with a dedicated wheel and tyre package.

Recent work has also seen the brakes rebuilt, new ball joints fitted, and the gearbox serviced with fresh oil. The original handbook and a large folder of service records are supplied with the vehicle.

An original right-hand drive car, the interior has been trimmed in black leather. Additional insulation has also been fitted beneath the floor carpet.

The car currently has an interchangeable panel used for motor racing installed, which is trimmed to match the original interior. It features a key for the electronics to quickly disconnect power in case of an emergency, which is also convenient for saving the battery when the car is not in use for longer periods.

The original radio and speakers have been retained and are included in the spare parts package as a complete single centre console unit, which bolts and plugs in with the speakers mounted in original configuration on either side of the radio housing.

Whether you’re looking for the right E-Type to enjoy on the road, or if you’re looking for something track-ready right out of the gate, this excellent example is ready for its next owner to take the next chapter of its life in either direction.
