The Details:

Few Lancias demonstrate the marque’s combination of engineering ingenuity and adventurous Italian design quite as clearly as the Fulvia Sport. Styled by Ercole Spada for Zagato, it took the sophisticated front-wheel drive Fulvia and clothed it in a lightweight, aerodynamic fastback body quite unlike the more conventional Fulvia Coupé.

This right-hand drive example is chassis 818.333 002676, identifying it as a 1968 Fulvia Sport 1.3 Series I production, retaining lightweight aluminium opening panels including the bonnet, doors and distinctive rear spare-wheel access panel.

Its history file indicates that it was delivered new to Australia through Victorian Lancia distributor W.H. Lowe & Co, with Victorian Motor Registration Branch correspondence recording the car under registration LDH-841 and identifying Bob Jane South Yarra Pty Ltd as an early registered owner. It also documents a series of subsequent Victorian ownership transfers. The original LDH-841 plates remain with the car.

Following a registration in Victoria in 1983, the car spent approximately four decades off the road before it was uncovered as a barn find. Its subsequent restoration began in March 2018 and was completed in December 2019.

The body was extensively stripped, with the interior, exterior fittings, engine, gearbox, radiator, wiring, lights and glass removed. According to the restoration report, inspection revealed no evidence of previous accident damage or poor repairs, while the panels, subframe and chassis were considered original and the identification tags remained intact. Body repairs were carried out as required, without the need for major rust reconstruction, before the car was refinished in Rosso Corsa matching its original factory colour.

The cabin was similarly dismantled and restored. The original seats, door cards and surrounding trim were retrimmed in black leatherette matching the original factory trim and new black floor carpet with heel mats fitted. A tailored mat set with Lancia sewn in badges was also fit.

The dashboard was reskinned by the dashboard doctor and its damaged wood veneer replaced with a new item. The instruments and switches were refurbished and a non-original radio removed in favour of the correct-style Fulvia radio blank.

Attention extended to some of the Sport Zagato’s more unusual details. The electrically operated rear hatch ventilation mechanism was dismantled and repaired after its motor was found seized, while the heater box was removed, its blocked core refurbished and the fan returned to operation. The original Carello headlights were also dismantled and remetallised, with the wiring and lenses restored.

The Fulvia is fitted with a later Rallye 1.3 S-specification 1,298 cc narrow-angle V4. The engine and front subframe were removed during the restoration, with extensive engine work undertaken by Euro AutoLab in 2018. A new timing chain and water pump, replacement gaskets and hoses, new fuel pump, rebuilt Solex PHH35 carburettors, rebuilt starter motor and generator, and a new clutch and flywheel are understood to have been fitted.

The braking, steering, suspension and exhaust systems were also extensively recommissioned. The restoration file records replacement brake calipers, lines, bleeders and pads, a new handbrake cable, drag link, tie rod ends and bushes, together with a new exhaust manifold, muffler, pipes and tailpipe.

The car now rides Cromodora alloy wheels with 175/65R14 tyres, while an original-style steel spare and tool kit accompany the car. The seller reports its latest service was completed on 15 January 2026 at approximately 32,000 miles, with the odometer now indicating approximately 35,544 miles.

Following years of exacting work, the Fulvia received several concours and club awards, including Best Lancia in 2023 and Best Italian at Show at the 2024 Maling Road Auto Classico. Its restoration dossier, historical records, owner’s booklet, tools and available receipts will accompany the car.

With substantial restoration documentation, documented Australian provenance and the added performance of its later 1.3 S specification engine, this Zagato-bodied Fulvia presents as an engaging example of one of Lancia’s most distinctive sporting designs.
