The Details:

The W166 generation Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG combined the practicality of the M Class with a hand-built AMG V8 and a chassis developed to handle considerably more performance than you may expect out of something of its size. Contemporary Australian testing recorded 0 - 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds in standard form, at over two tonnes, retaining five seats, permanent all-wheel drive, air suspension and a braked towing capacity of more than three tonnes. 

That impressive 4.8 second sprint to 100 is courtesy of a 5,461 cc M157 twin-turbocharged V8, driving all four wheels through an AMG Speedshift Plus seven-speed automatic transmission. Standard Australian specification produced 386 kW and 700 Nm, with a rear biased 40:60 4MATIC torque split all-wheel drive system.

Underneath, the ML 63 used AMG-tuned AIRMATIC air suspension with adaptive damping and the Active Curve System, designed to reduce body roll while retaining the long distance comfort expected of an M Class. Large ventilated and perforated disc brakes completed the package.

This ML 63 benefits from the optional AMG Performance Package, which raised output by 24 kW, knocked that time down to 4.7 seconds and included a carbon fibre engine cover, AMG Performance steering wheel and red brake calipers. 

Finished in Diamond White, this car is equipped with 21-inch AMG alloy wheels, a panoramic glass roof, roof rails and a towbar. Inside, the black AMG leather cabin features heated and ventilated sports seats with contrast stitching, COMAND infotainment and climate control.

Built in October 2014 and Australian complied in December 2014, the accompanying Mercedes-Benz service booklet records first registration on the 8th of December 2014 and a pre-delivery inspection at McIntosh of Mosman on the 9th.

The most recent service book entry is from Mercedes-Benz specialist Tripoint Automotive on 2 September 2024 at 242,467 km, with the seller reporting a more recent engine and transmission service by Scott Dryer at an indicated 156,000 miles (251,000 km). The seller also reports that the airbag suspension was recently replaced at a cost of approximately $1,500.

When photographed, the instrument cluster was configured to miles and displayed approximately 156,594 miles, equivalent to around 252,000 km. This is consistent with the kilometre progression recorded in the service book, including the 242,467km entry in September 2024.

Sold with its handbooks and substantial partial service history, the ML 63 presents with normal evidence of use for its age and distance travelled. The seller notes one small blemish to the rear bumper.

With its hand-built twin-turbo AMG V8, permanent all-wheel drive and physics-defying combination of performance, luxury and utility, the W166 ML 63 represents a practical daily for someone who needs the space and still enjoys the occasional spirited drive.
