This 2018 McLaren Senna is chassis 0037 of 500, finished in MSO Defined Burton Blue and displaying just 2,251 km. Extensively specified through McLaren Special Operations, it was originally delivered in the United Kingdom in August 2018 and is now located in Auckland, New Zealand.

Named after legendary McLaren driver Ayrton Senna, the Senna was developed as a road legal track car. At launch it was the lightest McLaren road car since the F1 and the most powerful internal combustion-engined road car the company had produced. Aesthetically, it bucked modern trends and was designed heavily around aerodynamics rather than following conventional supercar styling. 

By the time it was unveiled, all 500 planned units had already been spoken for, and today they surface for sale only very rarely.

The Senna is built around McLaren’s carbon fibre MonoCage III structure and employs double wishbone suspension with adaptive dampers and RaceActive Chassis Control II. Its bodywork incorporated active front aerodynamic elements, extensive underbody treatment and the expansive hydraulically operated rear wing, which alters its position according to the car’s requirements and also functions as an airbrake. Carbon ceramic brakes and centre-lock wheels complete a package conceived around circuit use. 

At the car’s heart is McLaren’s M840TR 3,994 cc twin-turbocharged V8, producing 800 PS, or 588 kW, and 800 Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed Seamless Shift dual-clutch transmission. With a quoted lightest dry weight of 1,198 kg, McLaren claimed 0 - 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, 0 - 200 km/h in 6.8 seconds and a maximum speed of 335 km/h. 

This particular car is identified by its cabin plaque as No. 037 of 500. It is understood to have been delivered into the United Kingdom on 1 August 2018, finished in MSO Defined Burton Blue and first registered under LJ18 HCD. 

There, it is understood to have been owned by David Clark, who served as McLaren’s Commercial Director in the ‘90s and was instrumental in overseeing the McLaren F1’s road and race programs. It moved into the care of the seller, its second owner, approximately three years ago, moving to New Zealand in the process.

This Senna’s delivery specification includes MSO Bespoke interior trim with Slate Alcantara, bespoke embroidered headrests, an MSO Defined carbon fibre sill panel and Senna Foundation embroidery. The specification extended to upper and lower Gorilla Glass door panels, Touring-size racing seats, a Carbon Black Alcantara steering wheel, Dark Stealth exhaust heatshield and nine-spoke lightweight wheels in a Dark Stealth finish. Previous sales documentation records more than £40,000 of additional equipment. 

Aesthetically, Burton Blue is contrasted by the Senna’s extensive exposed carbon fibre, black centre-lock wheels and yellow highlights within the front aerodynamic appendages. The aerodynamic bodywork leaves much of the car’s aero architecture exposed, from the deep front splitter and channels around the front wheels to the large side intakes, rear diffuser and distinctive elevated rear wing.

The cabin combines exposed carbon fibre structure with Alcantara and a pair of fixed-shell racing seats. Despite the emphasis on weight reduction, chassis 0037 is not without its comforts, including air conditioning, Bowers & Wilkins seven-speaker audio, McLaren Track Telemetry, front and rear parking sensors and a rear parking camera. A lithium-ion battery, tyre pressure monitoring and vehicle tracking are also included in the specification. 

Chassis 0037 shows just 2,251 km and has been in the care of the seller for approximately three years. It is offered with its handbooks and a full service history, with its most recent service carried out at approximately 2,000 km.

This 2018 McLaren Senna, chassis 0037, represents a vanishingly rare opportunity to acquire a track-bred supercar from one of the world’s most successful motor racing marques, and a namesake of the driver considered by many to be the greatest of all time.
