The Details:
This 1977 Porsche 911S has undergone a comprehensive restoration and Carrera RS 2.7-style backdate, combining its original 2.7-litre air-cooled flat-six and five-speed manual with the iconic looks of Porsche’s celebrated 1973 homologation special.
Manufactured in September 1976 for the 1977 model year, chassis 9117200674 identifies the car as a later G-series 911S Coupe. The original paint plate remains with the car and records paint code 408-9-1, associated with Bitter Chocolate. The car is understood to have originally been delivered into the United States, wearing a Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards label and fitted with mph instrumentation, more recently spending time in Europe.
It is understood to have undergone extensive restoration and a Carrera RS-style backdate about five years ago. The seller advises that the work included repainting, steel guards, replacement glass, a new fuel tank and a complete engine rebuild.
The resulting bodywork replaces the later impact bumper appearance with early long bonnet styling, as well as the cleaner front and rear bumpers, widened rear bodywork and the characteristic ducktail engine lid. Its white finish is accented by red Carrera scripts, matching bumper stripes and red-centred five-spoke wheels.
At the rear remains the naturally aspirated 2.7-litre flat-six, driving the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. The seller reports that the engine was rebuilt in 2025 at a cost of $33,000 by renowned mechanic Pasquale Rivetti. The car was then handed to Melbourne Porsche specialist NineAuto, with another $35,000 spent replacing or rebuilding everything around the engine, including the gearbox. Receipts for all work completed accompany the car.
The cabin is finished in black, including sports seats with black and white houndstooth inserts, VDO instrumentation in mph and grey carpeting.
Showing 183,649 miles, the seller has owned the 911 for approximately three years and reports its most recent service to have been completed at around 182,000 miles. The car will be accompanied by handbooks and a collection of invoices and receipts relating to the restoration, engine rebuild and other work carried out. It is currently unregistered.
Benefitting from a comprehensive restoration and Carrera RS backdate, and a recent engine rebuild completed by Pasquale Rivetti, this 1977 Porsche 911S Carrera RS backdate is a highly evocative and attainable recreation of one of motoring’s most desirable cars.
