This 1981 Porsche 911 SC is an attractive car, benefitting from a 930 Turbo-inspired widebody Cabriolet conversion. Owned by an elderly gentleman and maintained in storage in Keysborough, it’s offered with 98,628 miles on the clock.

Chassis WP0ZZZ91ZBS140173 identifies the car as a 1981 model-year, rest-of-world specification 911 SC Targa, originally manufactured in Stuttgart. It is understood to have originally been delivered into Germany, before moving to the United States and then arriving in Australia roughly eight years ago. 

It began life as a narrow body Targa, with the original paint plate recording code 31G-9-3 corresponding to Pacific Blue Metallic. Power is courtesy of a 3.0-litre air-cooled flat-six with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, mated to a five-speed manual transmission. 

The car has since undergone a conversion to an open top Cabriolet, complemented by widened front and rear bodywork inspired by the 930 Turbo, and is now finished in white with a contrasting dark blue convertible roof and interior. The large rear spoiler, Turbo-style stone guards ahead of the rear wheels, front spoiler and white-centred five-spoke wheels, believed to be Fuchs, complete the look.

Paintwork and trim are reported to present well overall, with a handful of chips and cracks noted. 

Inside, the cabin features dark blue upholstery and carpeting, including bolstered front seats and the ambitious 911 rear seating arrangement. The dashboard retains its traditional five dial layout, now fitted with white-faced instrumentation. Other changes include a three-spoke sports steering wheel, aftermarket audio system and updated gear knob. The driver’s exterior door handle is reported to be inoperative.

The seller advises that the 911 was previously registered on Victorian club plates, which are not transferrable. It is therefore offered unregistered. 

This 1981 Porsche 911 SC is beautifully of its era - a classic air cooled 911 in manual, updated to the unmistakable styling of the 930 Turbo with the added benefit of the Cabriolet roof.
