The Details:
This 1993 Mazda RX-7 FD3S 'Amemiya Special' is a one of a kind, highly developed example of Mazda’s celebrated third generation rotary, reportedly commissioned for a comprehensive build and tune by Japanese rotary specialists RE Amemiya. Featuring an RE Amemiya widebody kit, modified 13B rotary engine and extensive performance upgrades, it is finished in Slate Grey over a black interior and offered from Auckland, New Zealand, showing 20,248 km.
Introduced in 1991, the FD3S was the final generation of Mazda’s RX-7, featuring a lightweight chassis, near 50:50 weight distribution, balanced handling and the marque’s compact, twin-turbocharged 13B-REW rotary engine. The model was a favourite of Japan’s aftermarket tuning community, particularly RE Amemiya, whose extensive rotary engine, chassis and body development work, together with success in Japanese GT racing and drifting, earned the company legendary status within the community.
This example is understood to have been commissioned by a previous owner for an extensive rebuild and tune by RE Amemiya at its Tomisato workshop. The car was subsequently featured in Australian automotive publication Street Cover, which documented its extensive specification and ownership in Melbourne.
It wears an RE Amemiya AD GT-2 widebody kit, AD Facer N1 '05 front bumper, vented AD9 carbon bonnet, extended front splitter, canards, side skirts, GT2 rear wing and rear diffuser. Additional features include fixed RE Amemiya headlights, LED taillights and Ganador carbon mirrors. The body has been repainted Slate Grey, with 18-inch black Advan RS-D alloy wheels and large orange front brake calipers completing the presentation.
The mechanicals have seen similar development, with the seller advising that the 13B has been street ported and paired with a Trust GReddy TD06-25G single turbo conversion, RE Amemiya V-mount intercooler and radiator system, updated fuel system and exhaust, and A'PEXi Power FC engine management tuned by RE Amemiya. In its Australian tune, it’s understood to have produced 236 kW at the rear wheels following a remap for local fuel.
The drivetrain and chassis have also been extensively upgraded, with an uprated clutch, RE Amemiya short shifter and limited-slip differential, Quantum RS2 coilovers and RE Amemiya four-piston front brakes. Suspension geometry and alignment are reported to have been set up by RE Amemiya.
Inside, the black cabin features Recaro bucket seats, a Momo steering wheel, MazdaSpeed handbrake, 300 km/h instrument cluster and additional Defi instrumentation. The rear compartment has been stripped of its trim and fitted with a red rear strut tower brace.
Originally supplied to Japan, the car subsequently spent time in Australia before being registered in New Zealand in July 2025, where it carries registration RDW980. The seller advises partial service history and a most recent service performed by GVI on 26 July 2026 at 20,000 km. No handbooks accompany the vehicle.
Built and tuned by legendary tuners RE Amemiya and benefitting from extensive mechanical, aerodynamic and aesthetic upgrades, this 1993 Mazda RX-7 FD 'Amemiya Special' is a highly developed and expressive example of the JDM icon.
