1988 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 RS/RSR Backdate

Fast Facts:

RS/RSR-inspired widebody backdate featuring extensively upgraded suspension and brakes, a bespoke interior, and an estimated kerb weight of just 1,100 kg thanks to extensive lightweighting.

Rebuilt 3.2-litre flat-six mated to a G50 five-speed manual

Accompanied by documented ownership and maintenance history spanning the United States, Venezuela and Australia, with a substantial collection of maintenance invoices.

The Details:

This 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 is an extensively developed lightweight RS/RSR backdate, based on a late Carrera 3.2 with a G50 manual, featuring a build sheet that will make you blush and a look inspired by one of the most desirable cars the marque has produced.

Taking inspiration from the legendary 1973 Carrera RS and subsequent RSR competition cars, this example began life as a left-hand drive Carrera Coupé with factory sunroof. It is understood to have been purchased in standard form by the previous owner and shipped to a Porsche specialist in Venezuela in 2012, where it subsequently underwent a multi-year restoration and mechanical rebuild, transforming nearly every aspect of the car.

The work goes all the way down to the bones, with the body conversion employing GT Racing fibreglass panels including an extended early-style long bonnet, ducktail engine lid, front spoiler, widened RSR-style guards, fenders and bumpers. The seller advises that all exterior panels apart from the roof have been replaced, with the front luggage compartment pan, windscreen and major rubber seals also renewed during the restoration.

Finished in white, the bodywork is complemented by contrasting (and removable) black Porsche side graphics with orange lettering, black headlight surrounds, bonnet retaining pins and Vitaloni California mirrors. Filling the widened wheel arches are distinctive 17-inch Fuchs-style Euromeister alloy wheels, 8-inch at the front and 10 at the rear, with orange centres and polished lips. The seller reports that Michelin Pilot Sport front tyres were fitted in 2025, with Hankook Ventus V12 tyres fitted to the rear in 2021.

At the heart of the car is a naturally aspirated 3.2-litre air-cooled flat-six, reportedly fully rebuilt in 2016. Performance enhancements include a custom M&K stainless steel exhaust and headers, B&B aluminium front oil cooler, performance air intake and Steve Wong engine management chip. Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a G50 five-speed manual gearbox.

The chassis has received equally substantial attention, with Elephant Racing adjustable front and rear anti-roll bars and drop links, 930 Turbo tie rods, Bilstein RSR front struts, custom Rebel/Bilstein dampers and RSR-style rear coilovers with Eibach springs. Upgraded front control arms, upper suspension mounts and wheel spacers are also understood to feature.

The list continues with Brembo GT ‘Big Red’ four-piston front calipers and 14-inch discs, together with stainless steel brake lines. A Rennline front strut tower brace adds further rigidity.

Inside, bespoke black perforated leather sports seats, produced by Stephan Schloessing of Classic Car Seats in Austin, Texas, are accompanied by lightweight RS-style door panels, carpeting and replacement headlining. A MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, Porsche 917-inspired wooden gear knob, Rennline aluminium pedals and accessories, and lightweight Coco floor mats finish the cabin.

The backdate’s mission to add lightness does not mean that the car is void of modern accoutrements. A period-correct Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 stereo has been discreetly upgraded to provide Bluetooth connectivity and charging.

Additionally, rather than removing air conditioning entirely as is so common, the system has reportedly undergone a comprehensive RennAir overhaul, incorporating a Canden compressor, serpentine evaporator, Pro Cooler receiver/drier, Desert Duty compressor and lightweight barrier hoses. That said, the conventional heating system has been removed, along with the windscreen washer reservoir and pump.

The seller estimates the 911’s weight at approximately 1,100 kg.

Following its restoration in Venezuela, the Porsche is understood to have been imported into the United States in 2019, where it was maintained by its previous owner in Florida. The current owner advises that they acquired the Porsche in the United States in 2021, enjoying it there for approximately nine months before bringing it with them to Australia in 2022. Since its arrival, the car has reportedly covered around 17,000 km, remaining in the seller’s care for approximately five and a half years.

Maintenance in Australia has been entrusted primarily to Sydney specialist The Pit Exchange, with invoices recording regular servicing and repairs since September 2022, including replacement of the inner and outer rear driveshaft boots in June 2024. The most recent recorded service and repairs were undertaken on 17 April 2026 at 92,545 miles.

The accompanying documentation is understood to include more than 30 invoices spanning three continents, together with historical service records, original manufacturer handbooks, two factory keys, additional luggage compartment and glovebox keys, and Australian import and engineering compliance paperwork. Earlier records document work by Porsche specialists Germania Motors and Corporación German Cars in Caracas, along with subsequent maintenance undertaken in Florida and New York.

The seller reports that the Porsche presents and runs well following regular use, presenting the expected patina of a car of this age, including some stone chips to the front bumper and left rear wheel arch flare. Paint correction of the hood and right-hand side rear quarter is reported to have been completed by Atlas Autobody in Artarmon in September 2026. The driver’s switch for the passenger side electric window has been disabled, although the passenger side control remains functional.

Currently showing 94,259 miles, the Porsche is registered on NSW conditional club plates 24175E, which are not transferable with the sale.
