The Details:
This 1982 Porsche 911 SC Targa is a characterful example of the classic air-cooled sports car, finished in Zinn Metallic with black Carrera graphics, 17-inch Fuchs-style wheels and whale tail-inspired spoiler. Originally manufactured for the United States market, it has subsequently been converted to right-hand drive and shows 166,962 km.
Hanging over the rear wheels is a naturally aspirated 2,994 cc air-cooled flat-six with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. Independent torsion bar suspension and four-wheel disc brakes complete the mechanical package.
The exterior is finished in Zinn Metallic, also known as Zinc Metallic, with contrasting black Carrera side graphics, bonnet stripes, yellow-tinted headlights and various motorsport-inspired decals. Additional features include a rear whale tail-style spoiler, black-centred 17-inch Fuchs-style alloy wheels and a custom roof rack with timber slats, pictured carrying a spare tyre.
Inside, the cabin is trimmed in leather, with five dial VDO instrumentation and a three-spoke Porsche steering wheel. Equipment includes electric windows, air conditioning and an aftermarket CD player, together with a timber gear knob.
The seller purchased the Porsche privately approximately five years ago from a previous owner in the Blue Mountains, who had reportedly owned it for around ten years. The previous owner is understood to have acquired the car from the wife of his late best friend, who had reportedly built, modified and treasured the car for many years.
The seller reports that the 911 was originally delivered into the United States and imported into Australia many years ago. Following its import, it was converted to right-hand drive with the seller describing the conversion as having been completed to a very standard.
Documentation of the original importation and conversion is not available, and the seller has not been able to establish an Australian compliance date. The original US identification plate records a manufacture date of June 1982.
The seller advises that the car has seen very limited use during their ownership and has been garage kept. Its last reported oil change was around 2021, and the vehicle would benefit from servicing and recommissioning before regular use, including oil, fluids, belts and brakes. The air conditioning reportedly requires attention, while the electric windows operate slowly.
Cosmetic imperfections include stone chips, minor damage to the lower front apron and some cosmetic damage to the front bumper near the number plate. The seller also notes evidence of an older repair to the right-hand rear quarter, the extent of which has not been established.
The Porsche is accompanied by a replacement handbook and partial service history. Currently showing 166,962 km, it is presented with NSW Historic Vehicle registration 39795-J, which is not transferable.
A characterful car with a unique story, offered from the long term care of passionate owners, we look forward to seeing this 1982 Porsche 911 SC Targa back on the road with its next passionate owner behind the wheel.
