The Details
This 1971 Maserati Indy 4700 is a well-presented, original right-hand drive example of what is a rare car to find in Australia.
Named to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the trident brand’s famous 1939 and 1940 wins at the Indianapolis 500, the Indy was the first new model released under Citroën’s ownership of Maserati.
Produced from 1969-75, only 1104 examples of the Indy were built. Only 364 cars were fitted with the 4.7-litre engine after its 1970 introduction.
A mere 13 cars were delivered new to Australia, only nine of which were fitted with a manual gearbox like this car.
Being a ‘4700’ model, it serves up 216kW and 380Nm, making it good for the 0-100km/h sprint in around 7.2 seconds based on testing when new. The engine in this particular car was recently rebuilt.
Designed by Vignale, this example of the stylish 2+2 grand tourer is finished in blue with a cream interior, and presents in good condition inside and out.
It is free from extensive modifications, with the fitment of a Pioneer head unit and audio system in the cabin the only obvious upgrade.
Currently located in Perth and kept by its previous owner for 20 years, this car is supplied with a folder of information that includes Maserati Classiche certification confirming it as an original RHD car. A number of the original books and partial service history is also supplied with the car.
As far as ’70s Italian automotive style goes, it doesn’t get much more prototypical than the Maserati Indy. While survival rates for these cars are good, right-hook examples like this one are harder to come by.
