1993 Porsche 968

Fast Facts

A cared for, largely original example of the cult classic front-engined, rear-wheel drive ‘transaxle’ Porsche

Beautifully balanced handling, boasting a great chassis and near ideal 50/50 weight distribution

Known for lasting build quality that is hard to find in modern cars

The Details

Offered in a visually arresting original red finish, this 1993 Porsche 968 is a well presented and largely original example of the cult classic sports car, representing a great value opportunity to jump into an entertaining, and relatively scarce Porsche.

Introduced for model year 1992 and produced until 1995, the 968 only had a short run, with somewhere between 11,000 and 13,000 units believed to have been built. Following on from the 944 S2, the 968 did not launch to universal acclaim, but instead steadily developed a reputation for its beautifully balanced handling, boasting near ideal 50/50 weight distribution, capable chassis, lovely torquey motor and exceptional build quality.

Delivered in July 1993, this 968 is equipped with the standard 3.0-litre straight-four, which was the first to employ Porsche’s VarioCam variable intake camshaft adjustment. This is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission equipped with another first - Tiptronic. This car has been fitted with a quieter muffler, but the seller notes no other major modifications or customisations.

Records show a brake upgrade which featured 928 S4 calipers, Sebro front discs, Racers Edge brake adaptor kit, 928 S4 front pads, braided hoses and new rear discs and pads.

This vehicle is finished in red over a tan leather interior. The 968’s body was hot-dip galvanized as standard and has proven quite resilient over time. Paintwork is in good original condition, with some marks to note on the bumpers, chips on the edges of the doors and minor imperfections commensurate with age.

The owner notes a minor dent in the left side rear quarter that shows no paint damage. There are some small chips in the 16-inch alloy wheels.

Porsche’s exceptional build quality continues inside, where the tan leather interior is holding up very well. The seller notes no faults with controls, switches or electronics, and no warning lights. An aftermarket Blaupunkt Key West MP36 head unit has been installed and the car features Dynaudio speakers.

The vehicle has been in the care of the seller for the past year, and they organised for the most recent service to be carried out by Autowerks Porsche Specialists on the 26th of June 2025 at 174,079 kilometres. It will be sold with the original handbooks as well as a partial collection of service records up to more recent years.

While it failed to make the splash Porsche needed at the time, the 968 went on to garner a cult following as a confident, well built and, most importantly, thoroughly entertaining driver’s car. Offered in charming original condition and the eminently usable automatic configuration, this example represents a great opportunity to experience that for yourself.

Descriptions and information are supplied by the seller or owner of the vehicle and are believed to be accurate and not misleading to the best of their knowledge. Prospective buyers are required to satisfy themselves as to the accuracy of the description, and independent verification is strongly recommended.
