The Details
Finished in in lovely restored condition, this 1965 Volkswagen Split Screen Kombi benefits from a neatly presented aesthetic and mechanical restoration completed in 2018 and is upgraded with a 1,600 cc Twinport Volkswagen flat-four.
The Split Screen Kombi remains one of the most recognisable, collectible and evocative classic Volkswagens. This 1965 example has undergone a comprehensive rebuild, completed in 2018, and was brought to Australia from South Africa.
Configured in right-hand drive, it features an aftermarket sunroof as well as safari front windows. You’ll also find a rock-and-roll bed in the back. It rides 15-inch wheels.
The original 1,100 cc motor was swapped for a 1,600 cc Twinport from Volkswagen during the restoration, and this is paired with a four-speed manual transmission.
The exterior has been repainted and has been maintained in good condition, with no reported major blemishes, chips or defects. Panel fit and overall finish are consistent with a high-quality restoration.
Inside, the cabin has been retrimmed and remains in good condition, with seats, linings and controls all presenting well. All electrics, switches and instruments are reported to be functioning correctly.
The Kombi has been in the care of its current owner for approximately one year and has been maintained as a cherished classic rather than a daily driver. No service history is available.
A classic Kombi benefitting from a recent restoration, stronger motor to keep up with modern roads, and a desirable layout that would make it a great option for road trips and weekends away in an enduring and evocative classic.
