All that grunt is channelled to its 285-section rear tyres through a seven-speed ‘AMG SpeedShift MCT’ automatic, which uses a compact wet startup clutch instead of a torque converter.

Factor in that the ‘R231’ generation SL produced from 2011-20 was around 140kg lighter than the model it replaced thanks to its aluminium spaceframe, and that performance is only amplified.
