The Details:

This 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1 is a highly original, conscientiously cared for and well researched example of the classic American muscle car, beautifully presented in resprayed two tone red and black paintwork.

It came out of the Dearborn factory in February, 1971, one of 1,779 delivered in SportsRoof body trim and finished in Bright Red paintwork over a black knit vinyl interior with bucket seats. The original specification included the Mach 1 Sports Interior option, power steering, power front disc brakes, ram air option, rear deck spoiler, AM/8-track stereo radio, tinted glass and Magnum 500 chrome wheels.

Under the hood is the original 351 cubic inch, 5.8-litre, 2-V Cleveland engine mated to a three-speed FMX automatic transmission. The V8 was rebuilt approximately 6,000 kilometres ago and received what the owner enthusiastically dubbed a new ‘lumpy’ cam at the time. Upgraded Koni suspension has also been installed, alongside an electric distributor and twin thermal fans.

The red and black paintwork benefits from a respray, with the refinished work reported to be in good condition. All rubber seals have been replaced, and brand new floor pans with sound deadening installed. New decals, chrome trim highlights, louver and tail lights have been installed.

There are some small bubbles noted on the front guard and driver’s side quarter panel.

The cabin has also been partially retrimmed, including replacing the carpet, console, steering wheel and some dash components with Bilit parts. A retro-styled bluetooth stereo system has been installed, with a subwoofer installed in the boot.

This work is reported to have been maintained in good condition, with some minor damage to the driver’s seat bolster noted.

Two sets of wheels will be included with the sale - Magnums and Cragars.

Benefitting from significant mechanical and aesthetic work, this 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1 SportsRoof is a compelling example of the American classic, ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian.
