This 1976 Volkswagen Type 2 ‘Bay Window’ Kombi is a beautifully presented example of the iconic transporter, finished in Lemon over a Bone interior with a pop-top roof.

A right-hand drive car built in October of 1976, this is a late example of the Australian built and delivered transporters, with Australian production ending in 1977. The owner reports that the car is mechanically original, and is equipped with the upright air-cooled 1,584cc Type 1-derived flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission.

E. Sopru & Co was a well known Australian VW camper specialist, and is understood to have been the only camper conversion officially sanctioned by Volkswagen Australia and sold through VW dealers. The car’s E. Sopru & Co plate is dated November 1976, allowing us to assume that it was likely converted when new and supplied through the Australian Volkswagen dealer network.

This Kombi has been refinished in Lemon paintwork, which is reported to be in good condition alongside the exterior trim and pop-top roof. The Bone upholstery is also refurbished and noted to be in good condition, and the seller notes no issues with controls, switchgear or electronics.
