The Details:

A rescued and refreshed barn find, this 1983 Porsche 911 SC Cabriolet is a matching numbers classic with Porsche verification, offered in sound original condition following recent care.

Introduced in 1978, the 911 SC features an aluminium 3.0-litre horizontally opposed flat-six ‘boxer’ engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection paired with a five-speed '915' manual transmission. The Cabriolet arrived a few years later - a first for the 911.

Delivered new into Germany, this Cabriolet, finished in red over black and riding Fuchs wheels, spent time in the United States before being imported to Australia around 20 years ago. Once it got here, it was parked in a shed, where it remained until the previous owner bought it and set about bringing it back to life.

The original engine has been refreshed, receiving a top end rebuild by Priority Porsche in South Australia in 2019. Pictures and receipts documenting the process will be retained with the car. Transmission is taken care of by the original matching numbers five-speed manual gearbox.

There is no reported damage to the vehicle, and the red finish presents very well. The seller reports some minor chips around the car, and that paintwork has been touched up in places. There are some marks on the boot lid and two holes where a spoiler was previously fitted. The Fuchs wheels have been repainted and fit with Bridgestone RE003 tyres that have seen minimal mileage.

Looking inside, the cabin presents similarly well. An aftermarket radio and speakers have been installed and some major work was completed to swap the speedometer to kilometres from miles. The speedo face was changed, recalibrated and both the gearing and odometer adjusted accordingly. Supporting photographs from before and after the change are available for confirmation.

The seller reports that the electric mirrors and antenna, the cruise control and the windscreen washer are not working. A relatively common change on these classic 911s to save weight, the original factory air conditioning has been partially removed, although all parts have been retained and will accompany the car so that they can be reinstalled if so desired.

The 911 was serviced by the owner just before the new year, work comprising an oil change, oil filter and gearbox oil change. A partial service history with supporting spreadsheet is available. The original owners manual and supplement for the Cabriolet will be included in the sale.

The vehicle is currently registered on NSW historic plates which can not be transferred to a new owner. NSW compliance documentation including engineering certificates will accompany the car and the original South Australian compliance sticker remains on the car.

This 1983 Porsche 911 SC Cabriolet represents an honest, usable and affordable opportunity to experience an unfiltered, uncensored classic 911 - in Cabriolet trim with the opportunity to drop the roof on a nice spring or autumn day.
