The Details:
This 1987 Ferrari Mondial is a low mileage, highly original example of the rare 2+2 mid-engine Ferrari. First registered in July 1988, it’s one of a very limited number of factory right-hand drive cars, only a small percentage of which were originally delivered into Australia.
Styled by Pierangelo Andreani at Pininfarina, with bodywork by Carrozzeria Scaglietti, the Ferrari Mondial is the marque’s last V8 mid-engined 2+2 model. A steel space frame chassis, four-wheel independent wishbone suspension with coil springs, vented disc brakes with servo assist and a weight just over 1,400 kg made for an enjoyable and practical sports car that could fit four adults in relative comfort.
The sonorous V8 in this example is a Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injected lightweight alloy unit in the highly desirable 3.2-litre Quattrovalvole specification, which is equipped with four valves per cylinder and also uses a cast alloy intake housing. Shifting is via a five-speed all-indirect dog-leg box.
The car is finished in the highly desirable and original combination of Rosso Corsa over a tan leather trimmed interior. The owner reports paintwork to be in good condition, noting only minor chips showing in expected exposed panels and edges.
The tan leather interior is also understood to be in good condition, showing only a pleasant patina outside of some wear to the entry shoulder of the driver’s side seat.
There is no reported damage, nor any faults with electronics, gauges or switchgear outside of the headlight switch which is understood to be problematic.
This Ferrari has been booked in for service ahead of sale, which will be completed by Ferrari specialists Black Stallion Motors in Melbourne. Black Stallion Motors have cared for the vehicle throughout the seller’s 7 year ownership and a full service history is reported to accompany the vehicle.
The Mondial will be offered with tools in their leather tool roll and original books.
A practical and spirited Italian classic, this 1971 Ferrari Mondial represents an exceedingly rare opportunity to acquire an Australian-delivered, factory right-hand drive car preserved in low mileage, highly original condition. Strong service history backed up by a service completed ahead of auction allows interested parties to bid with confidence.
