The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is the fascinating result of a collaboration between the two marques, and we are proud to offer this 2005 model – a fine example of the breed, and one of a very small number kept in Australia.

Hand-built in Surrey, England by McLaren at its famous headquarters, only 2157 examples were ever produced between 2003-10, despite initial plans for 3500 to be made. At the time of its creation, Mercedes owned a 40 percent stake in the British manufacturer.

This example was originally delivered new to the United States before spending time in New Zealand, as evidenced by the “Mercedes-Benz Club of New Zealand” sticker in the windscreen. It then found its way to New South Wales, initially in a Gosford museum before residing in a Sydney collection for the past nine years.

All SLRs left the factory in left-hand drive format, and it was never officially sold in Australia. As a result, this example is currently unregistered Down Under.

Styled by McLaren F1 designer Gordon Murray and current Mercedes-Benz chief design officer Gorden Wagener, the SLR’s futuristic looks are headlined by its long front-hinged bonnet and butterfly doors.

This example presents in the most iconic specification of silver over black, with 19-inch nine-spoke ‘turbine’ alloys shod in Michelin Pilot Super Sport rubber.

Powered by the 5.4-litre ‘M155’ V8 engine, this was the last supercharged engine produced by AMG before shifting to turbocharging for its forced induction engines. Producing an immense 460kW and 780Nm, it’s backed by the five-speed ‘5G-Tronic’ automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive.

Built around a carbon-fibre monocoque chassis, the SLR hints at these Formula 1-derived underpinnings through the unmistakeable design of its nose.

This example has only driven around 7200 miles over the course of its lifetime, and comes with the assurance of all books and full service history.

The opportunity to own an SLR in Australia is an understandably rare one, meaning this excellent example is certainly one for esteemed collectors to watch.
